Issue/Introduction

While applying a new VMware vCenter 8 license via the VMware vCenter Server UI, a warning appeared under Assignment Validation.

Clicking "Details..." on the right side reveals that vSphere Storage Appliance is listed as an unsupported feature, accompanied by the following message:

The selected license does not support some of the features that are currently available to the licensed assets.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

The warning was triggered due to legacy environment metadata still referencing the deprecated component vSphere Storage Appliance, which was officially deprecated in older releases.

Resolution

vSphere Storage Appliance has been deprecated in releases prior to vSphere 8. Since the vSphere Storage Appliance is no longer present or in use, the warning was safely ignored and proceed with applying the new vCenter 8 license.

Once the new license is applied perform these Post-license health validation.

  • Cluster/host inventory review
  • Storage configuration
  • Overall vCenter functional checks.
