Issue/Introduction

During the "Import Virtual Machine" operation (Advanced Cross vCenter vMotion), the storage compatibility check may incorrectly succeed instead of showing a warning when all of the following conditions are met:
- The source and destination datastores are the same.
- In the "Select storage" page, "Select virtual disk format" is changed to a setting other than "Same format as source".

Environment

vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

When the source and destination datastores are the same, no actual data migration occurs, so the virtual disk format cannot be changed.
Therefore, when attempting to change the disk format, the following warning is displayed as expected behavior:

The operation is not supported on the object.
Disk [Device ID] is not moving, so any transform requests will not be honored.

However, due to a cosmetic issue, this warning message may occasionally be suppressed.
Instead, the following message is incorrectly displayed, and the storage compatibility check succeeds:

Compatibility checks succeeded.

Resolution

This is a cosmetic issue. There is no impact to the virtual machine import process itself, and the issue can be safely ignored.
You can proceed with the import regardless of whether the warning is displayed or the check succeeds.

Note: As indicated in the warning message, the virtual disk format will not be changed (converted) because the datastore remains the same.
