When you generate the out-of-the-box (OOTB) report "Capacity Report - Datastores", it shows an incorrect number of Datastores under the "Datastore Summary" tab.
This report utilizes the OOTB view named "Datastore Summary". When the view is checked individually, it also reports an incorrect "Number of Datastore".
Aria Operation 8.x
This issue is caused by an incorrect configuration of the OOTB View's aggregation and subject relationships:
The View is configured as a "Summary" type using the aggregation method set to "Sum."
The View has four different Subjects configured, all of which reside within the same vCenter relationship hierarchy.
Because each subject accesses the same underlying Datastore metric, the "Sum" aggregation adds the same metric value multiple times (e.g., four times), leading to a significant discrepancy in the reported numbers.
This issue is expected to be addressed in an upcoming release of VMware Aria Operations. The design principle is that a view should not render data for multiple subjects in this way, as it leads to the incorrect counts described.
As a workaround, follow these steps to correct the view:
Edit the "Datastore Summary" view.
Remove all subjects configured in the view except for the "vSphere World".
The "vSphere World" is the top resource and has the correct metric published.
Save the updated view.
This behavior is due to the view configuration resulting in the same metric being counted multiple times. Removing the redundant subjects resolves the count discrepancy.
