Reboot requirement after updating VMware Tools

Issue/Introduction

This article outlines the necessity of an Operating System (OS) reboot after updating VMware Tools.

When updating VMware Tools on Windows, a reboot dialog was displayed, but it was dismissed by selecting "No" without performing the reboot.

As shown in the command below, the VMware Tools version appears to have been updated even without an OS reboot:

> Get-Process vmtoolsd | Select -Property ProductVersion
ProductVersion
--------------
<New Version>  <---- Displayed despite no reboot

Resolution

Even if the VMware Tools has been updated and the new version appears to be running, the installation process is not fully complete.
Perform an OS reboot to finalize the installation.
