Issue/Introduction

When attempting to copy a Group path using the three-dot (ellipsis) menu in NSX Manager, the Group name shown in the path may differ from the current Group name displayed in the UI.

For example:

  • Group Name: example_123

  • Group Path: /infra/domains/default/groups/example_example

Environment

VMware NSX 4.x

Cause

If you change the name from the UI, you are only modifying the display name, not the policy path. The policy path functions as a string ID on the policy side, and it cannot be changed.

Resolution

Workaround

To ensure the Group name and path name match:

  1. Delete the existing Group, and

  2. Re-create the Group using the desired name.

This will generate a new path that aligns with the Group’s current name.
