Issue/Introduction

  • NSX upgrade fails for the ESXI HOST enabled with VLCM cluster with error as "upgrade failed: Virtual-machine located on host. reported an issue which prevents entering maintenance mode"

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

  • The NSX upgrade failed to initiate on the ESXi Host because an error reported by a running VM prevented vSphere DRS from successfully placing the host into maintenance mode.

Resolution

 

  • Manually migrate the virtual machine (VM) that is causing the error to a different ESXi host within the vCenter cluster.

  • Enable Maintenance Mode: After the VM has successfully moved, manually put the affected ESXi host into Maintenance Mode directly from vCenter.

  • Reattempt upgrade from the NSX UI using the Retry option
