Shrinkage operation is not supported on federated Edge cluster

Issue/Introduction

Unable to shrink an edge cluster in SDDC Manager. Error: Validation for edge cluster spec failed, please check the table for details. 

Failed Task:  Validate Edge cluster is not federated

Shrinkage operations is not supported on federated Edge cluster

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.x

Cause

SDDC Manager does not currently support shrinking an Edge cluster when the Edge cluster is stretched or federated. 

See documentation: Remove Edge Nodes from an NSX Edge Cluster. Edge cluster must not be federated or stretched.

 

Resolution

To work around the error and remove an Edge Node:

1. The Edge Node needs to be removed from NSX manager first. See, Remove NSX Edge Nodes from an Edge Cluster
2. Delete the Edge node from SDDC Manager. See KB article, Use the SDDC Manager API to delete the Edge (already deleted via NSX) from VCF Inventory
