Issue/Introduction

Telegraf Agent installation failing with error below:

Bootstrap Failed for VM 1234####-####-####-#######_vm-###### with error message:{"status":"FAILED", "data":[ { "status":"FAILED", "message":" GuestOS Microsoft Windows Server 2019 (64-bit) notsupported.FAILED - runBootstrapOrch. Please checkC:\Users|#######\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\VMware-UCP_Bootstrap_Scriptsvmware42\uaf_bootstrap.log on the endpoint VM.", "stage":"1" } ], "action":"install", "job":"install","currentstage":"1", "totalstages":"10" }

Cause

Checked the uaf_bootstrap.log and found the following snippet indicating that a specific certificate file (cert.pem) was missing.

FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\Users\\ADMINI~1\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\VMware-UCP_Bootstrap_Scriptsvmware164\\vmtest_vm-<vm_uuid>.cert.pem'

Resolution

• Remove the vCenter server - Cloud Proxy mapping and redirect to unused cloud proxy using the steps mentioned in the article below:

• By redirecting the installation to an unused Cloud Proxy, the certificate generation process completed successfully. The agent installed without issues, and metric collection was validated across multiple cycles on the endpoint machines.
