VMware vSphere ESXi

Issue/Introduction

Unable to add ESXi host to the vCenter Server.

An error occurred when adding ESXi to VC :Cannot contact the specified host (ESXi_hostname). The host may not be available on the network, a network configuration problem may exist, or the management services on this host may not be responding.

Running the command `curl -v telnet://<HostIPAddress>:902` on VC, revealed that port 902 between VC and ESXi is not reachable.

Environment

vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

The ESXi management network has been initialized but the VLAN ID has not been configured.

Resolution

Configure the correct VLAN ID for ESXi.
