Issue/Introduction

When attempting to download a VM in VMware Cloud Director an error is returned similar to:
[##############################] Could not close the output stream for file "file:///opt/vmware/vcloud-director/data/transfer/#################". - Disk quota exceeded

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

The size of the VM exceeds the space available on the transfer directory of VMware Cloud Director.

Resolution

There are several possible resolutions:

  • Ensure there is enough free space on the transfer directory. Old support bundles and patches can be cleared safely. The space of the directory can be gathered from the command line of a VMware Cloud Director cell with: df -h
  • Replace the NFS for the transfer directory with a large share, or increase the size of the share and reboot all VMware Cloud Director cells in an orderly fashion. Follow Replace the Transfer Server Storage for Your VMware Cloud Director Appliance
  • As a workaround the provider may be able to export an OVA directly from vCenter.
