Upgrading Aria Operations from 8.18.3.24663027 to 8.18.5 fails

Issue/Introduction

During the upgrade the appliances will reboot to apply the OS updates. After the reboot the environment is unavailable and the upgrade is not progressing.

• Admin UI is unavailable

SSH into the appliances and check the permissions of directory /usr/lib/vmware-vcopssuite/utilities/conf if the permissions are drw-r-----

Environment

Aria Operations running on version 8.18.3.24663027

Cause

The issue is caused by the following redundant file which has unexpected quotes and a space in its name: 

ls -lhtr /usr/lib/vmware-vcopssuite/utilities/conf/
...
rw------ 1 root  root   14K Jun 16 07:32  '  vcops-photon-apache.conf.bak'
...

Resolution

• Revert the environment using the snapshots
• Remove the file before starting the upgrade.
• SSH into each node
• delete the file

  cd /usr/lib/vmware-vcopssuite/utilities/conf/
  rm 'vcops-photon-apache.conf.bak'

• apply the upgrade using the admin UI
