Confirming ESX/ESXi vmnic Firmware Version from vSphere Client

Issue/Introduction

This article provides the steps to determine the firmware version and driver version for physical network interface cards (NICs) on ESXi hosts using the vSphere Client.

Environment

  • VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x
  • VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x
  • VMware vSphere ESXi 9.x

Resolution

To determine the version information for a physical network interface card (vmnic) from the vSphere Client:

  1. Log in to vCenter Server using the vSphere Client.
  2. Select the specific ESXi host from the inventory.
  3. Click Configure → under Hardware, select Firmware.
  4. Review the Physical network adapters section.

The Firmware Version and Driver Version for each vmnic will be displayed like below.
