Issue/Introduction

Symptom:

  • BGP failed to establish connections with peer switch.
  • /var/log/frr/frr.log shows Connection reset by peer when BGP state changed from Connect to OpenSent.

BGP: <Peer BGP IP address> [Error] bgp_read_packet error: Connection reset by peer

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

BGP peer sent out TCP reset to terminate the BGP connections, possibly due to peer switch not ready.

Resolution

Please check further from peer BGP switch to understand why BGP connection from NSX is being reset.
