After deleting a user from the “Permissions” tab in vSphere Client, the user does not disappear from the list.

Issue/Introduction

Even after selecting and deleting a user or group from the Permissions tab, they remain visible in the list, and the following state can be confirmed:

• The Delete button is inactive
• The name of the parent object is displayed in the “Definition In” field

Environment

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

This is because permissions are inherited from the parent object.

Resolution

Remove the permissions for the relevant user or group from the parent objects displayed in the “Definition In” field.
