Virtual machine network connection issues switching to Distributed switch

Issue/Introduction

Virtual machines are unable to communicate with each other, after migrating from vSwitch to Distributed switch (vDS).

Environment

VMware vSphere ESX all versions

Cause

The issue is due to configuration mismatch in the Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) between the virtual switch layer and the physical network layer.

Resolution

If LACP is configured on distributed switch, make sure to implement LACP on the physical switches for the traffic to flow correctly.
