Issue/Introduction

When attempting to edit an existing HCX Service Mesh configuration to remove WAN-OPT, users may encounter a 500 HCX UI error and a 401 cloud authentication error.

Symptoms

  • Editing the HCX Service Mesh fails with:
    • HTTP 500 error in the HCX UI
    • Error example: Http failure response for https://#####.com/plugins/com.vmware.hcx.plugin/vsphere-client/ui/hcx/hcx-ui/rest/hybridity/api/interconnect/computeProfiles: 500 OK

  • HCX Cloud login attempts fail with:

  • Service Mesh configuration (including WAN-OPT removal) does not apply successfully.

Environment

HCX

Cause

This issue is caused by invalid or outdated Cloud service account credentials used for HCX Cloud authentication. HCX requires valid cloud credentials to authenticate and synchronize configuration changes.

Resolution

  • Create a new Cloud service account in the cloud environment.
  • Update the HCX Site Pair configuration with the new credentials.
  • Reattempt the Service Mesh modification (e.g., removing WAN-OPT).
  • Verify that HCX tunnels and services show as UP after the update.
