Issue/Introduction

In Greenplum gpcopy, users may observe that when gpcopy is executed with output redirected to a file (e.g., using > logfile 2>&1), certain progress-related output and parts of the Final Results summary are missing from the generated log file.

Fields such as :

  • === Final Results ===

  • Total Tables

  • Successfully Copied

  • Failed

  • Total Size Copied

  • Total elapsed time

appear in interactive terminal output, but do not appear when the same command is redirected to an external logfile.

Environment

GPDB - 6.X, 7.X

gpcopy - 2.8

Resolution

Workaround:

Run gpcopy without redirection to see full progress bar and detailed summary:

gpcopy --dbname srcdb --dest-dbname destdb --validate count --yes

This will show the entire progress section, including the progress bar and all final summary fields.

A permanent fix is expected in a future release of gpcopy. Users are advised to monitor upcoming Greenplum & gpcopy release notes for enhancements.
