Creation of NSX IP pool fails when Check Overlap With Existing Pools is set to ON

Issue/Introduction

  • Attempting to create a new IP Address Pool using the UI with Check Overlap With Existing Pools set to on fails

     
  • The below entries are encountered in the NSX Manager support bundle in /var/log/proton/nsxapi.log:
    ERROR providerTaskExecutor-1-102 PolicyIpamBaseProvider 77385 POLICY [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-manager" errorCode="PM5008" level="ERROR" subcomp="manager"] Ip Pool identifier is null or empty

    ERROR providerTaskExecutor-1-102 IpAddressConverter 77385 POOL-MGMT [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-manager" errorCode="MP1" level="ERROR" subcomp="manager"] Ip Address Conversion Failed for ##########
    java.net.UnknownHostException: addr is of illegal length
  • The environment had been upgraded from NSX-T Data Center 3.1.x to 3.2.x previously.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.x
VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.x

Cause

During data-migration from 3.1.x to 3.2.x an incorrect library was used to convert the ranges, this resulted in extra padding being added and the issue being introduced. 

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting VMware NSX.
