NSX edge node in degraded state

Issue/Introduction

A new edge was deployed, but its tunnel status was down, causing the edge’s overall node status to be marked as degraded.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

• ICMP ping attempts between the local and remote IPs are failing.
• Packets are being sent from the Edge node but are observed dropping on the uplink.

Resolution

 

• Verify whether the VLAN is tagged on the Edge node. If it is, the corresponding VLAN range must be configured as a trunk on the ESXi virtual switch.
• For an access port, the VLAN must be tagged on the virtual switch, however, this requires separating overlay and VLAN traffic since an access port can carry only a single VLAN.
