Removing NSX from Host fails with UNAUTHORIZED error

Issue/Introduction

  • Trying to install NSX on a cluster fails. Under System > Fabric> Hosts you see the following error under the affected host:
26195: Pushing NSX depot(s) on Compute Manager: #####-#####-#####-#####-####### failed with error: org.springframework.web.client.HttpClientErrorException$Forbidden: 403 Forbidden: "{"error_type":"UNAUTHORIZED","messages":[]}". Retry Transport Node Collection at cluster
  • Trying to remove NSX from ESXi fails. Under System > Fabric> Hosts you see the following error under the affected host:
Failed to uninstall the software on host. Removing NSX components from host through vLCM failed with error: org.springframework.web.client.HttpClientErrorException$Forbidden: 403 Forbidden: "{"error_type":"UNAUTHORIZED","messages":[]}". Retry the activity.

Cause

Compute Manager account does not have sufficient permissions to proceed with the change.

Resolution

To solve this issue:

  1. Go to System > Fabric > Compute managers 
  2. Select the Compute Manager and Edit
  3. Click Edit next to "FQDN or IP Address"
  4. Enter a Username with required permissions as per: Add a Compute Manager
