Issue/Introduction

  • Customer was unable to proceed with the NSX upgrade activity.
  • All NSX tunnels were in a Down state for desired edge node.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

Further analysis revealed that the impacted Edge node was incorrectly placed in a different compute cluster than the remaining Edge nodes. This misalignment in cluster placement led to inconsistent networking and configuration behavior, contributing directly to the issue.

Resolution

Migrated the affected Edge node to the previous cluster, aligning it with the placement of the other nodes. Once the node was moved to the correct cluster, VLAN connectivity was restored and the issue will be resolved. By migrating the affected Edge node to the designated cluster (where the validated VLAN and physical network configurations were already in place), the node inherited the correct uplink mappings and VLAN-backed connectivity. This restored the underlay reachability required for tunnel establishment, which in turn brought all NSX tunnels back up and resolved the communication issue.
