Issue/Introduction

  • Connection to vCenter Server using powercli command "Connect-VIServer" fails with below messages.
    Connect-VIServer : MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS Connect-VIServer                Could not resolve the requested VC server.
Additional Information: There was no endpoint listening at https://<vCenter Server IP/FQDN>/sdk that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.

  • The vCenter Server appears to work properly when this issue occurs.

  • When you run tracert/traceroute directed to the vCenter Server, packets drop off at the hop before reaching the vCenter Server.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

This issue is caused by the network route between the terminal that runs the Powercli command and vCenter Server.

Resolution

Verify the network route to ensure that vCenter and the terminal can be connected correctly.
