Authentication failed on the fileserver for SFTP backups on NSX Manager UI: Error code: 29115

Issue/Introduction

• SFTP backups from NSX were working as expected

• Storage event caused read-only issues across all VMs in the entire datacenter

• Attempting to take an NSX backup fails with the following error:

  Error: Authentication failed on fileserver sftp://<ip-address>:22/<file_path>/cluster-node-backups/<NSX_version>-IPv4-<node_UUID>-<node-ip-address>. (Error code: 29115)

Cause

SFTP server was impacted by storage event

Resolution

• Reboot SFTP server

• Retry NSX Backup
