  1. Why is Broadcom announcing End of Life (EOL) for the SEDR hardware appliance?
    A: Broadcom is continuously reviewing its offerings and announcing the SEDR hardware appliance End of Life ensures our product portfolio remains secure, efficient, and aligned with current technology and customer needs. We will continue to offer SEDR on-prem virtual appliance and will:
    • Encourage customers to migrate to newer, and better-supported SEDR virtual appliance
    • Reduce operational risk by focusing engineering and support resources on actively maintained SEDR virtual appliances.
  2. What are the key milestone dates?
    A: The effective dates are as follows:
    October 28, 2025 Six-month advance notification to Catalyst Partners of the plan to End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Symantec EDR hardware Appliance (S-550)
    April 1, 2026
    • The SEDR hardware appliance EOL date is announced. 
    • New sales for the hardware appliance will be turned off 
    April 1, 2027 Last date for Renewals of Symantec EDR hardware appliance
    April 1, 2028* Support ends for the SEDR hardware appliance

    *If the contract period exceeds the dates mentioned, Broadcom is obligated to support SEDR to the contract end date per the standard End of Life Policy.

  1. Will Broadcom continue to support existing S550 hardware until the warranty expires?
    A: Yes, Broadcom will continue to support existing customers until their current contract expires. The EOL process will be implemented in accordance with Broadcom’s standard lifecycle policies, and all customers will be provided with guidance for a seamless transition. The Symantec EDR virtual appliance will serve as the replacement, providing equivalent or enhanced functionality to support your EDR needs.
  2. Is installation of SEDR 4.12.x supported on S550 hardware?
    A: Yes, Existing SEDR S550 customers should be able to deploy to the latest SEDR version 4.12 however Broadcom recommends you evaluate and review the SEDR 4.12 sizing guide before attempting to install SEDR 4.12.x.
  3. Is the upgrade to SEDR 4.12.x supported on existing S550 hardware?
    A: Yes, Existing SEDR S550 customers should be able to upgrade to the latest SEDR version 4.12 however Broadcom recommends you evaluate and review the SEDR 4.12 sizing guide before attempting to upgrade to SEDR 4.12.X.
  4. What is the replacement product?
    A: We are discontinuing only the SEDR hardware appliance; however, we will continue to maintain and support the EDR virtual appliance as the on-premises EDR solution. In addition, Broadcom offers Carbon Black EDR, which has revolutionized the security industry by introducing advanced detection and response capabilities.   5. Can I use the replacement virtual SEDR appliance in the same capacity as the physical SEDR appliance?
    A: Yes, the virtual SEDR appliance can be used in the same capacity as the physical SEDR appliance. It provides equivalent functionality, performance, and feature support for on-premises EDR operations. The key difference lies in the deployment model, the virtual appliance runs in a supported virtualization environment rather than on dedicated hardware, but all core capabilities and integration options remain the same.   6. What happens if I continue to use the S550 hardware after EOL?
    A: The system may continue to function, but Broadcom will not provide technical support, software updates, patches, or hardware replacements. Continuing to use the appliance past EOL may introduce security, compliance, or availability risks.
  7. Will my current licenses transfer to the virtual appliance / replacement product?
    A: Yes. Customers with active contracts will be eligible for license migration to the replacement offering at no additional cost. Details will be shared by your account team.
