Issue/Introduction

SDDC root password does not allow the below special characters.

  • Ampersand (&)
  • Less than (<)
  • Greater than (>)
  • Single quote (')
  • Double quote (")
  • Backslash (\)
  • Hash/Pound sign (#)
  • Equals sign (=)
  • Parentheses (( and ))
  • Square brackets ([ and ])
  • Curly brackets ({ and })
  • Semicolon (;)
  • Colon (:)
  • Comma (,)
  • Forward slash (/)
  • At sign (@) (Note: while sometimes listed as accepted in generic policies, it has caused issues in specific versions and is best avoided for root accounts)
  • Backtick (`) (also known as a grave accent)

Resolution

All the above mentioned characters should be avoided while changing the root password for the SDDC manager.
