Unable to install VMware Tools as 'Install VMware Tools' option is greyed out

Issue/Introduction

• A warning banner is observed "VMware Tools is not installed on the virtual machine."
• The option "Install VMware Tools" is greyed out for all users.

 

Environment

• VMware vCenter Server
• VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

• This issue occurs if the CD/DVD drive device is disconnected on the Virtual Machine.

Resolution

• Verify if the CD/DVD drive is disconnected on the Virtual Machine.

• Click on the checkbox to connect the CD/DVD drive device.
• The option "Install VMware Tools" should be available now.
