Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • One or more hosts report warnings as "High pNic TX Generic error rate detected on vmnic" on vCenter under vSAN cluster host.
  • The alarm may fluctuate between warning and error periodically.
  • The warning on the host may show the faulty vmnic in the events tab.

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.x

VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

  • This issue happens if there is an intermittent issue with the particular vmnic which is configured for vSAN traffic.
  • The vmnic's link status will keep flapping up and down:
  • The vmnic will also show receive, transmit and abort errors reported:

Resolution

Please engage internal network engineer or hardware vendor to look into the Network card health and uplink health causing the Tx errors

Once resolved, the alert would automatically get resolved.
