Upgrade Sequence from VCF 4.5.1.0 to 5.2.1.0 reports a red exclamation point on Step 1: NSX_T_MANAGER update Bundle 4.2.1.0.0

Issue/Introduction

• You are upgrading VCF from 4.5.1 to 5.2.1.
• NSX components have successfully been upgraded to 4.2.1.0.0 outside of SDDC Manager control.
• Continuing the upgrade from SDDC Manager is not possible due to the precheck requirements against NSX.
• The Upgrade Sequence page in SDDC Manager shows a red exclamation mark on Step 1:
  
• Upgrade precheck reports an error and warns not to perform the upgrade until this error is addressed.
  

Environment

• VMware NSX
• VCF 4.5.1
• VCF 5.2.1

Cause

The upgrade of NSX from the version required by VCF 4.5.1 to VCF 5.2.1 recommends running the NSX Upgrade Evaluation Tool. This is built into the NSX 4.2.1 upgrade components, but SDDC Manager is unable to execute the precheck. This requires the upgrade of NSX to be performed by the NSX interface. Once the upgrade completes, SDDC Manager must be updated to recognize the upgrade is complete and the error has been addressed.

Resolution

The SDDC Manager database will need to be updated to mark the upgrade of the NSX components as complete.  Please open a case with Broadcom Support for assistance.
