Issue/Introduction

- The virtual machine's network adaptor is connected to an NSX segment

- VM is unable to reach its gateway

Environment

vSphere ESXi

VMware NSX

Cause

From the Host logs (nsx-syslog.log) there is a DETACH request from NSX to detach this VM port on the host causing the issue.

Log line: 2025-11-06T13:15:51.402Z In(182) nsx-opsagent[2100706]: NSX 2100706 - [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-esx" subcomp="opsagent" s2comp="nsxa" tid="51206127" level="INFO"] [DoVifPortOperation] request=[opId:[dvport-detach-####] op:[HOSTD_DETACH_PORT(2)] vif:[######] ls:[dvportgroup-#######:## ## ## ##] vmx:[[cluster01] vm-name/vm-name.vmx] lp:[######]]

Resolution

To resolve this:

1. Edit the VM's network adaptor connected to NSX segment in vCenter

2. Select a different port group, save it and then again edit the VM's network adaptor settings and select the correct NSX segment (this will make the host to send ATTACH PORT request to NSX causing to re-establish the connectivity of this VM)

3. Now when tested, the VM can ping its gateway and its connectivity is restored
