Configuring ESXi to Use the Latest Intel Microcode

Issue/Introduction

The latest BIOS with the Intel microcode fix from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) has been updated.

The customer needs an ESXi patch to run the latest Intel microcode.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.x

Resolution

Microcode patches are provided by CPU vendors to correct CPU errata. Typically, system vendors provide microcode patches as part of their BIOS/firmware updates.

Microcode mitigations are applied to a system’s processor(s) by a microcode update from the hardware vendor. These mitigations may not require hypervisor or guest operating system updates to be effective. Nonetheless, ESXi plans to include microcode updates that contain such mitigations when they become available, as a convenience to our customers.
