Issue/Introduction

This articles explains the steps to update/change the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) Hostname/PNID using vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface (VAMI)

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Resolution

Note : Ensure a backup/snapshot of the vCenter Server is taken before proceeding with the following steps.  For vCenter in ELM refer Snapshot Best practices for vCenter Server Virtual Machines

  • Log in  vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface (VAMI) ( https://<vCenterFQDN>:5480) using root credentials.
  • Navigate to Networking and click Edit on the Network Settings.
  • Select the management network adapter e.g. NIC 0 (Management Network), and click Next.
  • Expand the Hostname and DNS section.
  • Change the Hostname field to the desired value. Note: The new value for hostname must be DNS resolvable.
  • Click Next,  Enter the SSO administrator credentials for vCenter Server Appliance. 
  • Review the Summary and acknowledge the warning regarding system backup, then click Finish.
  • The vCenter Server Appliance will automatically update network settings, stop services, and start management services.
  • Upon completion, the browser will automatically redirect to the vCenter Server Appliance Management login page using the new FQDN.
