VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

While attempting to add a license to vCenter through the vSphere Client, no pop‑up window appears.

  • Log in to vSphere Client (HTML5 interface).
  • Go to Menu → Administration → Licensing → Licenses.
  • Click on Add.

To verify whether you are experiencing this issue, attempt another action such as creating a new "Datacenter" in vCenter server. If that also fails to display a pop‑up, it indicates you are encountering the same problem.

  • Log in to vSphere Client (HTML5 interface).
  • Right-click on the vCenter FQDN, select New Datacenter.

Environment

vCenter Server 7.x
vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

The pop‑up was blocked due to browser configuration or policy restrictions.

Resolution

Allow pop-up on browser setting.

Chrome: Block or allow pop-ups in Chrome - Computer - Google Chrome Help
Firefox: Pop-up blocker settings, exceptions and troubleshooting | Firefox Help

If Group Policy is blocking the pop‑up, contact your Administrator for assistance. As a workaround, you may also connect to vCenter Server from a VM that doesn’t have Group Policy settings.
