Unable to install tools-light package on ESXi host without putting it into maintenance mode.

Issue/Introduction

• Installing VMware tools package on host via baseline fails with no error on host.
• Remediation start and completes 100% but install doesn't start.

Environment

vCenter Server 8.0.x

ESXi 8.0.x

Cause

• vmware-vum-server.log:

error vmware-vum-server[####] [Originator@##sub=HostUpdateDepotManager] [scanHost## ##]
Inconsistent state for vib, found multiple independent obsoleting vibs (HPE_bootbank_hpessacli_XX.hpe, HPE_bootbank_hpessacli_XX.hpe, HTI_bootbank_hti-upgrade-vib_XX, ) that resolve the conflict for host: ###

• Multiple independent obsolete VIBs on the VUM database causing this issue.

Resolution

• Reset the VMware Update Manager database. 
• Follow the document to reset the VUM DB : Reset VUM Database
• Import the updates (tools-light package) from vLCM and recreate a baseline.
• Initiate the remediation.
