"Migration Error" Alert Occurs Without an Active Migration

Issue/Introduction

A "Migration error" alert is reported in vCenter, even though no vMotion or Storage vMotion operation was performed by the user or an automated process.

Environment

VMware vSphere

Cause

A "Migration Error" alert can also be generated when a virtual machine becomes orphaned within the vCenter inventory, even if no migration process is actively taking place.

Resolution

Address the orphaned virtual machine state to resolve the alert.
