vCenter Converter 9.0.0 can't run on windows server 2016

Issue/Introduction

• vCenter Converter 9.0.0 failed with the following error:
  

  converter.exe - Entry Point Not Found

  The procedure entry point SetThreadDescription could not be located
  in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware
  vCenter Converter Standalone\Qt6Core.dll.

• The procedure entry point SetThreadDescription could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files(x86)\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\Qt6Core.dll

Environment

Windows Server 2016

vCenter Converter 9.0.0

Cause

Windows Server 2016, kernel32.dll doesn't export SetThreadDescritpion, which causes the Qt6-based apps to fail at startup.

Resolution

• Install vCenter Converter 9.0.0 on Windows Server 2019.

Workaround:

• Install and use vCenter Converter Standalone 6.6, which is supported for converting Windows Server 2016.
