Issue/Introduction

  • Upgrade of NSX from 4.2.1 to 4.2.3 is failing on a host with error:

    Failed to place host <host> in maintenance mode. Please check the state of the host in vCenter.

  • From within vCenter, the host shows as unresponsive.
  • vCenter can connect to host over port 443 and 902.

    root@vc [ ~ ]# nc -vz [Host] 443
    [Host] [IP] 443 (https) open

    root@vc [ ~ ]# nc -vz [Host] 902
    [Host] [IP] 902 (ideafarm-door) open
  • hostd and vpxa are both running on host.

    [root@[host]:/etc/init.d] /etc/init.d/vpxa status
    vpxa is running

    [root@[host]:/etc/init.d] /etc/init.d/hostd status
    hostd is running.
