Issue/Introduction

  • You are upgrading the ESXi from version 7 to version 8.
  • The upgrade fails with error message similar to:
     [DependencyError]
     On platform embeddedEsx, VIB BCM_bootbank_vmware-storcli64_xxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx-xx requires esx-version << 7.x.x, but the requirement cannot be satisfied within the ImageProfile.
     Please refer to the log file for more details.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7 or lower

Cause

The storcli vib in the software profile is not compatible with ESXi 8 image.

Resolution

1. Download a compatible Storcli vib version from StorCLI - Support Documents and Downloads

3. Remove the old Storcli vib using the command esxcli software vib remove –-vibname vmware-storcli64

4. Reboot the ESXi host.

5. Validate the vib has been removed using the command "esxcli software vib list". 

6. Install the new Storcli vib using the command esxcli software vib install -v <full path to vib file>

7. Reboot the ESXi host.

8. Validate the newer vib has been installed using the command  "esxcli software vib list".
