Issue/Introduction

This article describes the supported procedure to change the Cluster VIP address in VCF Automation 9.0.
Direct migration or changing the management IPs to a different network or subnet is not supported.
However, if the cluster remains on the same network, a new VCFA cluster can be deployed and restored from an SFTP backup to apply updated IP configurations (including the VIP).

Environment

VCF Fleet Management 9.x

Cause

VCF Automation does not support direct modification or migration of the management IP configuration to a different subnet.

Resolution

Migration or changing IPs to a different network/subnet is not supported.

For changes within the same network, the supported approach is to deploy a new VCFA cluster and perform a component restore from an existing SFTP backup.

Steps:

1. Deploy a New VCFA Cluster using VCF Fleet Management

2. During deployment, assign the desired IPs (including the new Cluster VIP) from the same network.

3. After the new deployment completes, restore configuration and data from the SFTP backup using the steps mentioned in Restore VCF Automation from Backup

Additional Information

  • The redeployment and restore process must be done using the same network range.
  • Ensure a recent and valid backup is available before performing the restore.
  • The new cluster should have the same configuration (node count, sizing, and version).
