Issue/Introduction

When running CHECK COMPLIANCE for a Host Profile against an ESXi host, the compliance check reports the following noncompliant item:

Networking configuration > Host virtual NIC > [vDS name]:[Port_Group Name]

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server 8.0
  • VMware ESXi 8.0

Cause

The name of the port group configured on the ESXi host does not match the port group name defined in the Host Profile.

Resolution

There are two possible resolutions:

    1. Create a matching port group in the vDS:

      • Create a new port group in the vDS with the same name as the one defined in the Host Profile.

      • Migrate the vmk interfaces to the new port group.

      • Note: This operation may cause brief network packet loss. It is recommended to perform the change during a maintenance window.

    2. Update the Host Profile configuration:

      • Edit the Host Profile and change the port group name to match the port group name currently used on the ESXi host.
