Issue/Introduction

The warning message is seen when the License is selected for the New ESXi Host being added to the Datacenter in vSphere Client

Warning Message: "The license capacity might be insufficient"

  • Assignment Validation Details
The license usage of some assets is measured in units different than the capacity of the selected license. Cannot calculate the license usage before the license is assigned. If the license capacity is insufficient, the license assignment might fail.
    - Cannot calculate the usage for the following products.
    - vSphere 8 Enterprise Plus for VCF - Cores (minimum 16/CPU)

Environment

vSphere Client 8.x

Cause

The warning is displayed because vCenter only has preliminary host data and cannot fully confirm license sufficiency until the host is fully added to the inventory.

Resolution

This warning message is a result of an inconclusive pre-check and can be safely ignored.

  • The warning will not prevent the Host addition operation with a valid license.
