VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

Cannot log into the vcenter server URL through the vSphere client with either SSO or admin account. It times out.

Logging in to the VAMI immediately logs the user out and prompts them to enter the root password again.

Connecting to SSH fails with the message Connection reset.

Through the console to the vCenter Server VM, the user could verify that all the vCenter Server services are running.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

Cause

There is more than one vCenter Server Virtual Machine with the same hostname, IP, and DNS entries online at the same time. The ARP Tables on the network are corrupted, causing routing traffic to be sent incorrectly. As a result, credentials cannot be properly sent from the UI to the machine.

Resolution

  1. Identified the DR/Replication vCenter Server Virtual Machine and powered it off.
  2. Powered on the original vCenter server Virtual machine
  3. Verified that services were running
