Issue/Introduction

  • A vSphere ESX cluster was updated through vSphere Lifecycle Manager Images (vLCM)
  • The cluster and hosts show as compliant in vSphere Client > Updates
  • In NSX UI: System > Fabric > Hosts > Cluster, the NSX Configuration state shows "Powered Off" for one or more hosts even though they are powered on.
  • You might see other hosts in the cluster with "Install Skipped' state
  • The host status is Unknown
  • The cluster status is Preparation Failed
  • Clicking on "Preparation Failed" shows installation progress at "vLCM remediation initiated"
  • Clicking on "VIEW ERRORS" shows the message:
"VLCM remediation was skipped or failed for some hosts. List of failed host(s) [[UUID]] Please check individual transport node status for more details. You are about to reapply the Transport Node profile <nsx_cluster_profile> to cluster <host_cluster> Are you sure, you want to proceed?"

Environment

VMware NSX

Resolution

If any one of the host fails, the remaining hosts in the cluster go into Install Skipped state. To remediate, read the error message and take any necessary action. Then, click Resolve to retry remediation of the host and NSX preparation. Note that remediation happens serially, one host at a time.

Additional Information

Prepare an NSX Cluster with vSphere Lifecycle Manager
NSX installation is failing on the host with an error 'vLCM remediation initiated'
NSX host install fails at 15% vLCM remediation initiated
