Issue/Introduction

Change in behavior observed between ESXi 8.0U3 and ESX 9.0 GA during ESX install

Issue seen when performing the following steps

1. Enable VMD in BIOS ESX 9.0 installer does not see Micron 6550 as a device to install on, CISCO confirms iavmd 9.0.0.1100-3vmw driver is available on the ISO used to perform the install.
2. Enabled VMD in BIOS ESXi 8.0U3 can install on Micron 6550 devices
3. Disable VMD ESXi 9.0 can install on Micron 6550 devices

Environment

BIOS Set VMD as enabled and attempting to install ESX on CISCO Godzilla2U system.

Cause

There is a known defect in the iavmd 9.0.0.1100-3vmw driver.

The following log entries are observed in the vmkernel log file during install:

Resolution

Please install using the 9.0.1.0 Build of ESX. This build contains version iavmd 9.0.0.1100-4vmw of the driver needed which address this problem.
