Issue/Introduction

When reviewing installed packages, you may find Postgres 13 packages even though vCenter is using version 14. This can be determined by executing the following commands:

Determine the current version of Postgres:

/opt/vmware/vpostgres/current/bin/psql --version

Determine what Postgres packages are installed on the appliance:

tdnf list installed | grep postgres

Environment

VMware vCenter 8.x

Cause

Although Postgres 14 is in use for vCenter, the older packages of Postgres may still be installed.

Resolution

This is expected behavior and is not a failed upgrade or installation.

Note: Removal of Postgres 13 or any other modifications to the appliance packages is not recommended nor supported: VMware Virtual Appliances and customizations to operating system and included packages
