This article provides the sequence that needs to be followed to enable the Jumbo frames in ESXi hosts for iSCSI storage environments
Environment
VMware vSphere ESXi
iSCSI storage arrays with Jumbo frames.
Resolution
The Jumbo frames should be enabled across all the infra components involved in the data path. Hence it is strongly recommended to review the configuration guide of the storage array, network switches and understand the consequences before implementing the change.
It is important to follow the below sequence in enabling the Jumbo frames in an iSCSI storage environment with ESXi hosts to avoid any disruptions.
Storage array → Network switches → ESXi virtual Switch → ESXi VMK interface.

Setting the jumbo frames on the VMK interface before changing it on vSwitch may cause fragmentation issues.
