Issue/Introduction

  • Using vCenter Server DVS

  • Using VLAN backed Distributed Portgroup (DvPG) for VM connectivity

  • Third party port mirroring solution is enabled in VMware environment, such as Gigamon GigaVUE V Series

  • vCenter throwing an error similar to:

    • A specified parameter was not correct: port[99284351] can not be add/edit here, for it was used by same or other sessions

  • Adding new VM to DvPG results in no connectivity to the network

VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

Issue can be caused by a stuck/stale port mirror session on the portgroup in question

Resolution

Remove port mirroring deployments or stuck/stale port mirroring session related to error above

Unable to add/remove/edit port mirroring sessions in vSphere 8.0
