Issue/Introduction

Tenants require the VBS feature to be enabled on VMware Cloud Director(VCD) VMs. This article addresses the following queries:

  1. Enabling VBS on VCD VMs.
  2. Importing VMs enabled with VBS in VC to VCD.
  3. Impact of VBS enabled VMs imported into VCD.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1.1

Resolution

VBS in VCD is currently not a supported feature. This is not a tested feature and hence not supported, so all the impacts cannot be predicted.

  1. You can file a feature request as detailed in Submit a VMware feature request.
  2. If this feature still needs to be leveraged, tenants can import the VMs with the VBS feature enabled in VC.
Some of the impacts on VMs with the VBS feature enabled that are imported into VCD could include:
    1. On Power Off/On there might be issues in Guest OS usage.
    2. Cloning the VM might have some issues.
    3. Behavior is unknown if the customer is running nested VMs (applications) within the Guest OS.
