Issue/Introduction

The vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) pre-check for remediation reports a status of "May Not Remediate" for a specific host, displaying the message: "Pre-check has found some issues that may prevent completion of remediation."

If you check the "Show Full Remidiation Precheck Report," the following issue details are shown:

  • Issue: VMware vCenter Server is installed on a virtual machine and DRS is disabled on the cluster.

  • Issue status: User interaction recommended

  • VM: (Name of the vCenter VM)

Note: No issues are found on other similarly configured ESXi hosts in the cluster. DRS is disabled for the cluster.

Environment

VMware vSphere 8.x

Cause

The virtual machine hosting the VMware vCenter Server is currently running on the host for which the issue was reported.

Since DRS is disabled, vLCM cannot automatically migrate the vCenter Server virtual machine to a different host during the upgrade or remediation process.

Resolution

Implement one of the following workarounds to proceed with remediation:

  • Enable DRS for the cluster.
  • Manually migrate the vCenter Server virtual machine to a different host in the cluster.
