Issue/Introduction

When precheck for update VCSA, failed with the following error.

                summary: Appliance (OS) root password expired.
                resolution: Please change appliance (OS) root password before attempting an update

Cause

The root password of VCSA Photon OS is expired.

Resolution

Update root password.
When you try to log in to the shell via SSH or a virtual console, you will be notified that your password has expired and prompted to change it.
If you know your original password, you can change it there.

If you do not know the original password, you can reset it by following the steps below.

Reset the vCenter Server Appliance root password without reboot (6.7u1 / 7.x / 8.x).
