Issue/Introduction

  • When creating a new replication, it fails to complete successfully.
  • In the replicator logs on the destination VMware Cloud Director Availability replicator appliance (/opt/vmware/h4/replicator/log/replicator.log), errors similar to the following are seen:

    2025-11-03 19:06:38.442 DEBUG - [UI-########-####-####-####-############-####-##-##-##-##] [job-32] c.v.h4.replicator.util.DatastoreHelper   : Failed to create path C4-########-####-####-####-############

com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.CannotCreateFile: Cannot complete file creation operation.
    ...
    2025-11-03 19:06:38.442 ERROR - [UI-########-####-####-####-############-####-##-##-##-##] [job-32] com.vmware.h4.jobengine.JobExecution     : Task ########-####-####-####-############ (WorkflowInfo{type='setupDestination', resourceType='replication', resourceId='H4-########-####-####-####-############', isPrivate=false, resourceName='null'}) has failed

com.vmware.h4.replicator.api.exceptions.FailedToCreateReplicaPlaceholderDirectoryException: Unable to create replica placeholder directory 'C4-########-####-####-####-############'.
    ...

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7.3.x

Cause

VMware Cloud Director Availability is unable to create the required destination files in the underlying vSphere datastore.

Resolution

This behavior is caused by an issue outside of VMware Cloud Director Availability. Investigate and correct the issue in the destination vSphere environment preventing the file creation activity from succeeding.
